Arika Gurung changes the history of Nepal karate!
Nepalese karateka Arika Gurung has made history once again by winning a bronze medal at the Karate 1 Premier League event held in Rabat, Morocco.
This marks the first time a Nepali athlete has secured a medal in the Karate 1 Premier League, one of the most prestigious events in international karate. Gurung’s achievement adds to her growing list of accolades and establishes her as one of the most successful athletes in Nepal’s karate history.
Previously, Gurung won a historic silver medal at the 2023 Asian Games. It was Nepal’s first silver in an individual event at the Asian Games in 25 years. The last time Nepal had won a silver in an individual event was in 1998, when Sabita Rajbhandari achieved the feat in taekwondo.
In 2024, Gurung further solidified her position on the continental stage by claiming a gold medal at the Asian Karate Championships.
With her latest bronze medal win in Morocco, Arika Gurung has not only brought pride to the nation but also raised the profile of Nepalese karate on the global stage.
