Tamara Lehner is just one win away from breaking a 29-year medal streak

Austria’s 17-year-old kata star is just one win away from breaking a 29-year medal drought at the 61st European Seniors Karate Championships.

Competing in the highly anticipated Female Kata category, Lehner has thrilled fans with a spectacular run through the tournament. She has successfully secured a spot in the bronze medal match, scheduled for this coming Saturday.

If Lehner wins her match, she will make history. A bronze medal would mark Austria's first podium finish in an individual kata event at the European Seniors since 1997.

A Historic Weekend for Female Kata
Lehner’s bronze medal bid is part of a blockbuster weekend for the category, with several nations on the brink of major milestones:

Austria: Looking for its first individual kata medal in 29 years through Tamara Lehner.

Spain: Tournament favorite Paola García Lozano is fighting to win her second European title after her 2023 victory. A win would secure an incredible 16th gold medal for Spain in the history of Female Kata.

Portugal: Ana Cruz is looking to capture only the second medal for Portugal in this category since 1997. Portugal's only other Female Kata medal was a bronze won by Patrícia Esparteiro back in 2011.

All eyes now turn to Saturday's medal rounds to see if the 17-year-old Austrian can cap off her incredible tournament run and write her name into the history books.
