Terliuga: I took a risk

Terliuga: I took a risk

Following a tough loss in Germany, the karate icon opens up about her grueling recovery and finding peace at home.

Ukrainian karate superstar Anzhelika Terliuga, the European Karate Championships in Frankfurt weren't just a test of skill—they were a masterclass in resilience. Following a tough loss in the bronze medal bout, Terliuga shared a raw, vulnerable post on Instagram reflecting on the immense hurdles she overcame just to compete.

Terliuga’s battle began in early April when a severe knee injury left her unable to walk normally for ten days.

"My preparation for this European Championship was far from perfect... Even with the pain and discomfort, I kept training as much as I could while trying not to make the injury worse."

The bittersweet reality
While Terliuga fought fiercely, the physical toll ultimately kept her off the podium. She admitted the result hurts deeply, "Because of this injury, I had to take a step back and couldn’t get back to my best shape," she noted. "I still dream about returning — returning as the athlete I used to be and enjoying every fight again," added.

Healing and looking forward
Now, Terliuga is stepping away from the mats to give her body and mind the peace they desperately need. She is channeling her energy into the ultimate source of healing: her family.

"Right now, more than anything, I just want to be with my daughter and hold her in my arms," she shared, expressing deep gratitude for her supporters and the challenges that make her stronger.
