WKF updates Coaching rules
The World Karate Federation (WKF) has released updated regulations for coaches, introducing significant changes.
The revised General Regulation for coach/coaches, published this week, clarifies role eligibility, licensing procedures, and certification processes.
The changes are primarily outlined in Point 9 – General Specifications, with the following key provisions:
MAIN UPDATES
Role Exclusivity: Coaches can now attend referee licensing courses without performing both roles within the same calendar year.
Presidential Limitation: National Federation Presidents are barred from registering or performing as coaches at any WKF or Continental Federation event.
Athlete-Coach Separation: Athletes holding a WKF Coach License may only register as either a coach or an athlete for a given event—not both. Role changes are allowed once per year, in line with competition rules and nationality requirements.
Referee Participation: Referees may attend coaching briefings and certification exams but cannot function as both referee and coach in the same year.
In a related move, the WKF confirmed that coach accreditation cards will now be distributed exclusively in person during official registration sessions, as per Point 6 of the updated regulation.
"We aim to protect the integrity of our competitions"
WKF Technical Commission Chairman Mohamed Elhosieny emphasized the importance of these adjustments in promoting fair play and operational clarity at all WKF events.
“These updates aim to protect the integrity of our competitions by clearly defining the roles of coaches, referees, and athletes. It’s a step toward greater professionalism and transparency,” Elhosieny stated.
